When it comes to motorcycles many people often wonder why the shift pattern of the motorcycle has neutral between 1st and 2nd. Some people think that it is an odd design and that there is no specific reason for it, but in actuality there is a very good reason for it. This design was made a standard part of motorcycles in 1975 because of safety.

One of the reasons that the gear was placed between these two gears is because of how many motorcyclists were shifting into neutral as they slowed down, sometimes it was on accident, but mostly riders did it on purpose. The main reason behind this was so that they could stay in neutral at a stop sign or light and then simply shift into gear as soon as they had the right of way. The biggest problem was that riders started getting hurt.

The main reason riders often got hurt was because of rear wheel lockups, which usually turned into crashes. The rear wheels usually locked up because riders upshifted to first gear from neutral but they were coasting to fast. By putting neutral between first and second gear the rear wheel lockups crashes were reduced. Not to mention that it got riders to quit depending on neutral when they were at stop, so locating it in an odd spot reduced that dependency.

When it comes to riding motorcycles, you are going to hear a lot about what you should and shouldn’t do. Where you here this stuff from is going to depend on how many people you know who ride motorcycles. However, while you should listen to their advice the one thing that you want to listen to closer is your motorcycle riding instructor.

Before you can ride a motorcycle in most states, you are going to need to obtain a motorcycle license. Most states require you to take some kind of class that teaches you how to ride a motorcycle, but not every state does. If your state does not require you to take a class before getting your license you should look into taking the class anyway because it will teach you everything you need to know about riding a motorcycle, but it will also help you gain the experience needed to get your license. The reason for this is the classes will give you the hours you need on riding a motorcycle, which can be put towards obtaining your license.

The Deer In The MCycle Headlights

There are many different theories about what you are supposed to do if you cross paths with a deer or similar animal in the middle of the night. If you are riding a bike at night, you want to pay closer attention to what you can do to scare off the deer because they can be more dangerous for you than a car.

One problem with deer is that once they see your headlights they are frozen; sometimes it seems that no matter what you do they will not move. If you have a deer frozen in your headlights one thing that you can try doing is honking a horn or making some other kind of loud noise, sometimes this will startle them enough to cause them to run away.

If making noise doesn’t work the next best thing to do is to flash your headlights at them, make sure you do it repeatedly. Flashing the headlights seems to break the daze they have so that they get their wits about them so they can run off into the brush away from the road.
